Converse x The Good Luck Bar

The Good Luck Bar is one of South Africa’s best live music venues. Located at 1 Fox the Sheds in Johannesburg, the venue has a long history.

The main shed has been dated at 1893, making it one of the oldest industrial structures remaining in Johannesburg. In 1895, a liquor license for The Good Luck Bar was granted and the venue has gone through many iterations since. In 2014 the 1 Fox the Sheds complex saw a massive refurbishment and has since become one of Jozi’s favourite trendy food market spots.

The Good Luck Bar re-opened to the public on the 9th of October after undergoing renovations. Patrons now get to enjoy a drink and bite to eat at one of Jo’burg’s oldest bars while celebrating the best of Jo’burg now.

The Good Luck Bar revamp is the brain child of Gareth Wilson and Nicol van den Berg, both known for their involvement in programming Oppikoppi – which means we can expect top notch entertainment and a constant stream of Jozi’s who’s who.

The paraphrased line “Let’s drink to the last of the great pioneer town bars” from the Counting Crows’ Mrs. Potter’s Lullaby serves as inspiration for Nicol. “With some of the best acts in the world gracing our stage, and a serious hangout place for all open-minded, liberal, and all round good people of our rainbow nation.  Come and experience the music, the food and a guaranteed fun party,” he says.

For Nicol, the bar represents a new Jozi landscape: “The diversity of the streets and the culture in the Jo’burg CBD is amazing. It’s such a conglomerate of cool people and interesting stories.
