Fokofpolisiekar Make Crowdfunding History x Converse
Having been active in the rock scene since 2003, it’s hard to imagine the South African music industry without Fokofpolisiekar. As a band Fokopolisierkar didn’t just create an impression- they came to your home, kicked down your front door and screamed in your ear so that you couldn’t fail to notice their music. Introducing a new sound and beating down false ideologies, the rambunctious Bellville quintet apologised for nothing, questioned everything, and changed the history of South African music forever.
11 years have passed since the band dropped Swanesang, leaving their fans family wondering if there would ever be more music on the horizon. Luckily for the Fokof family, the band has decided to take things back to the studio and create their third full length album. Vetoing the usual route of funding- relying on big music labels to come to the table with the budget, the Fokof guys created a Crowedfund campaign so that they can independently release their new album. With the initial dream goal being R500 000, the total amount pledged is, to date, sitting at R1,011,470.
Over the years the band has forged a bond with Converse, saying about the clothing and sneaker brand “We’ve been wearing Converse since we started the band. It has become a part of our standard day-to-day and stage wear.” Not a company to overlook the awesome, Converse donated R100 000 to Fokof’s Crowdfund campaign, helping them on their way to achieving their dream. Converse has previously donated to another band associated with Fokofpolisiekar- Blood Brothers, of which Fokofpolisiekar members Hunter Kennedy and Francois van Coke are also part of.
Promising free concerts in both Cape Town and Jozi should they meet their Crowdfund targets (which has been surpassed, and then some), Fokofpolisiekar looks set to rock the stage again in the coming months.
