CONVERSE DONATES TO FOKOF ALBUM CAUSE
In support of their album fundraising project, Converse donates R100 000 to Fokofpolisiekar.
JOHANNESBURG. (May 17, 2017) – In March of this year Fokofpolisiekar launched a crowdfunding campaign via Thundafund to raise money to make their first full length album in 11 years. They began with a target of R500 000, but reached that ideal far sooner than they ever imagined. In fact, according to Thundafund, they raised the most money within a space of 48 hours and also managed to raise the most funds for a music album in South Africa to date.
Their loyal fans were joined by none other than legendary sneaker brand Converse in their support of the album-making venture. Converse came on board with a whopping R100 000, pushing the numbers way up. The band members were excited by the sizeable donation, but mostly overwhelmed by being supported by their all time favorurite sneaker brand. “I have been playing shows in Converse for almost 15 years now,” says bassist Wynand Myburgh. “It has really become part of my lifestyle and my stage gear. I cannot imagine wearing anything else. Give me a pair of black Chuck Taylor high tops and I am happy.” Singer Francois van Coke also pledged his allegiance to Converse and lead guitarist Johnny de Ridder said, ”Ek sal nog weirder op stage voel as ek nie n paar connies aan het nie.”

In some ways, you know us. Converse has been making Chuck Taylor All Star and One Star sneakers since we started over a century ago, and now we work to make new street style classics. What you wear defines sport, street, and creative culture, and we’ve been redefining it with you all along. When you wear Converse products, you create a culture of authentic street style simply by being yourself. Whether they’re on the feet of a ‘70’s basketball star in a history book or on the street with you today, Chucks have always signified cool…because you wear them. We don’t know where you’ll go, but we know you’ll take Converse to the future with you.
